Privacy Policy

Grit ("Grit," "we," "us") is a service that preserves the revision history of Google Docs you choose to connect. This policy explains what information Grit accesses, how we use it, how we store and protect it, and how you can remove it. Grit is operated by Travis Ross. 1. Information we access and store

Your Google account identity. When you sign in, we receive your email address, basic profile information, and a Google account identifier. We use these to identify your account and keep you signed in.
Authorization to act on your behalf. With your consent, Google provides Grit with access credentials so it can work with the documents you connect. We store these securely so Grit can keep your document history up to date; you can revoke them at any time (see Section 5).
The documents you connect — and only those. Grit works with the specific Google Docs you create through Grit or select using Google's file picker. For those documents, Grit accesses and stores their content, revision history, and basic metadata (such as title, document ID, and timestamps). Grit does not access any other files in your Google Drive.
Contributions by people you share with. When you share a connected document with students or collaborators, their edits become part of that document's revision history, and Grit preserves that history along with the identity of the contributor as recorded by Google. By connecting and sharing a document, you confirm that you are authorized to do so and to have its edit history processed by Grit.

Grit does not track your browsing, and does not collect data from any source other than the Google documents and account described above.

2. How we use your information

We use the information solely to provide the service: to sync and preserve the revision history of your connected documents so that you can view and work with how they changed over time. We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties, except as necessary to operate the service (for example, Google's APIs, through which the documents are accessed) or where required by law.

3. Google user data — Limited Use

Grit's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Grit only requests access to the specific documents you connect (the drive.file scope), and uses Google user data only to provide and improve the document-history features described above.

4. How we store and protect it

Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on infrastructure we operate and control. Access is restricted, and the document history we store for you is kept private to your account — it is not made available to other users of the service.

5. Removing your data and revoking access

Revoke access at any time from your Google Account permissions page. Once revoked, Grit can no longer access your Google documents.
Request deletion of the information Grit has stored by emailing travis.e.ross@gmail.com. We will delete your stored document history and account information within 30 days of a verified request.
Documents that Grit created in your Google Drive remain your files in your Drive; deleting Grit's stored copy of a document's history does not delete the document from your Drive.

6. Data retention

We retain your connected documents' revision history for as long as your account is active and the documents remain connected, so that the history stays available to you. When you disconnect a document, revoke access, or request deletion, we remove the associated stored data as described in Section 5.

7. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information Grit holds about you by contacting us at the address above.

8. Children's privacy

Grit is intended for use by adults in higher-education, research, and professional writing settings. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
